Be Merciful, O God

  1. Be merciful, O God,
    be merciful to me;
    beneath your shelt’ring wings I hide,
    ’til raging storms shall cease.
    I cry to God Most High,
    who does his will for me.
    He sends from heav’n and puts to shame
    the one who tramples me.
  2. God sends his truth and love.
    I dwell with lions fierce,
    with beastly men whose tongues are swords,
    whose teeth are shafts and spears.
    Above the highest heav’ns,
    O God, exalted be!
    And over all the earth below
    display your majesty.
  3. For me they spread a net;
    my soul was overwhelmed.
    They dug a pit along my path,
    but fell in it themselves.
    My heart is steadfast, God;
    with music I will sing.
    Awake, my soul! Wake, harp and lyre!
    My song the dawn will bring.
  4. Among the nations, Lord,
    to you my praise resounds,
    your steadfast love transcends the heav’ns,
    your faithfulness the clouds.
    Above the highest heav’ns,
    O God, exalted be!
    And over all the earth below
    display your majesty.
